ADEY MagnaCleanse System Flush
The modern, safer and far more effective way to clean your central heating, removing sludge and scale without risking leaks on older pipework.
Which Type of System Flush Should You Choose?
There are three main ways to clean a central heating system. Each method has its place, but some are far safer and more effective than others. Here's a clear breakdown to help you understand the differences.
We no longer carry out traditional power flushing. Instead, we use the ADEY MagnaCleanse system flush, a safer, more effective method that thoroughly removes sludge and scale without risking leaks on older pipework.

Power Flush, Chemical Clean or MagnaCleanse?
Traditional Power Flushing
A power flush forces water, often mixed with chemicals, through the system at high pressure to remove sludge and debris. The problem? Over the years, heating engineers have learned that power flushing is not suitable for many systems. The high pressure can easily cause leaks, especially in:
- Push-fit fittings
- Plastic pipework
- Poorly soldered joints
- Microbore pipe systems
Once a joint blows, repairs can be expensive, and the water damage even more so. We no longer carry out traditional power flushing.
Chemical Clean
Before modern equipment was available, a chemical clean was the only alternative to a power flush.
- How it works
- A cleaning chemical is added to the system and left to circulate for up to two weeks before being flushed out through the filling loop.
- The reality
- It only worked effectively in around 30% of systems. In many cases, sludge remained in radiators and pipework, eventually causing blockages and boiler failures.
Still, for systems that couldn't tolerate a power flush, it was better than doing nothing.
MagnaCleanse System Flush
The ADEY MagnaCleanse system is the modern, safer and far more effective solution. It combines the benefits of both previous methods:
A controlled, low-pressure flush
Specialist chemicals
Powerful magnetic filtration
Radiator-by-radiator agitation for deep cleaning
Because the pressure is much lower, it avoids the risk of blowing joints or fittings, making it suitable for far more systems. Each radiator is cleaned individually, ensuring sludge is removed rather than simply moved around the system.
The MagnaCleanse system flush is now the preferred method for most homes.

This short film from ADEY shows how sludge builds up inside a central heating system, and how the MagnaCleanse system flush removes it, radiator by radiator.
Signs Your Heating System Needs a Clean
Sludge and scale are responsible for around 70% of all boiler breakdowns, and most of these issues are preventable.
A dirty, sludge-filled system will cost you more in fuel, shorten the life of your boiler and almost always leads to expensive breakdowns.
You may notice
Black or brown water when bleeding radiators
Radiators slow to heat up
Radiators cold at the bottom
Radiators cold all over due to blockages
Little or no hot water
Boiler cutting out
Noisy boiler (kettling)
Frequent need to bleed radiators
Leaking or pin-holed radiators
If any of these sound familiar, your system likely needs urgent attention.
